Mild flavor, absence of acidity, high vitamin content. Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP is better known as Pizzutello due to its characteristic pointed shape. It is a cherry tomato grown in the Vesuvius National Park, on the slopes of the crater, benefiting from the volcanic soil and all the mineral substances it contains. The name “Piennolo” derives from the traditional preservation technique, in which the “Piennoli” (whole bunches) of tomatoes, harvested between July and August, are stored in suspension, in dry and ventilated places, so as to give the product its inimitable sweetness and typical sour aftertaste. The pizzutello is preserved either whole in its natural state or in the form of “pacchetelle”, that is to say cut into fillets and preserved in its own juice in the two variants red and yellow.
